Thanks to the collaboration with Itsaso Fernández, we have explored a growing reality affecting young people across Europe: the increasing difficulty of accessing housing and building an independent life.
Our research was prompted by a particularly concerning statistic: in Spain, 26% of young people who had already achieved independence have been forced to move back in with their parents, a phenomenon commonly known as the “boomerang effect.”
This report examines the causes and impact of this trend across several European countries, with a special focus on Mediterranean nations, where the phenomenon is especially pronounced.
